Difuzorska plošča ima funkcijo razpršitve svetlobe, to pomeni, da se svetloba razprši po njeni površini, svetloba pa se bo razpršila mehko in enakomerno; Osnovna struktura večine difuzorskih folij je prevleka delcev optičnega difuzorja na obeh straneh prozornega substrata, kot je PET.
